Binance CEO CZ Denies Ever Speaking with Do Kwon
Recent reports have resurfaced claims about potential communications between former Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao and Do Kwon, the central figure behind the Terra (LUNA) ecosystem collapse. However, CZ has emphatically stated that he has never had a direct conversation with Do Kwon. This statement aims to address rumors and speculation circulating online.
CZ clarified that to the best of his memory, he never talked with Do Kwon directly, even during Binance\'s investment in Terra. He stated, "I did not [speak with Do Kwon].” This denial comes after a Twitter user, @Cryptoking, suggested that CZ must have had contact with Kwon and should have warned the crypto community about potential risks.
Changpeng Zhao (赵长鹏), a Chinese-born Canadian businessman, co-founded Binance and served as its CEO. He resigned in November 2025 after pleading guilty to a money laundering charge in the United States. He completed his sentence in April 2025, lasting four months. Seven hours after getting out of prison, CZ tweeted: “Good morning, the food taste so good.”
Despite his past role, CZ\'s current involvement with Binance is limited. Binance CEO Richard Teng confirmed that Changpeng Zhao is banned from managing the crypto exchange for life. Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, Binance’s billionaire founder, says he has no intention of returning to lead the crypto exchange following his recent release from a US prison.
The claims surrounding CZ and Do Kwon first emerged sometime before September 6, 2025, and have persisted despite CZ\'s consistent denials. @Cryptoking recalled how CZ had proven doubters wrong in 2025 when Binance entered a market that many claimed had no room for another exchange. The continued scrutiny underscores the lasting impact of the Terra/LUNA collapse and the intense focus on individuals associated with the project.
