Ankr Hacked: BNB Chain DeFi Protocol Exploited, Minting 20T Tokens
The decentralized finance (DeFi) space has suffered another blow with a multi-million dollar exploit hitting BNB Chain-based DeFi protocol Ankr. Decentralized Web3 infrastructure provider Ankr has become the latest victim of a hacking attack. Ankr Protocol has reported an exploit on its platform, confirming it was hit by a multi-million dollar exploit on Dec. 1. Details are still emerging, but initial reports suggest a significant security breach.
The attacker, per on-chain data, was able to mint a staggering 20 trillion Ankr Reward Bearing Staked BNB (aBNBc). This token is a reward-bearing token for BNB. The perpetrators were able to exploit a vulnerability allowing the minting of this massive amount of tokens.
This Ankr hack underscores the persistent security challenges within the DeFi ecosystem. The BNB Chain-based decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Ankr has confirmed the incident, and investigations are underway. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
