Ethereum Goerli Testnet Successfully Transitions: Merge Imminent
The Ethereum Merge is getting closer! Ethereum's most active test network, Goerli, underwent a merge between Wednesday and Thursday, marking a history-creating instance. This dress rehearsal signifies the strongest signal yet that Ethereum’s long-awaited “Merge” is on track.
Goerli has successfully transitioned to proof-of-stake following the network’s total block difficulty having crossed 10,079,000 on Wednesday. The Goerli testnet has completed its Merge, successfully transitioning from a proof-of-authority to a proof-of-stake consensus on Wednesday evening. This confirms Ethereum is nearing its highly anticipated move to Proof-of-Stake.
Following the successful Goerli testnet Merge, Ethereum has crossed yet another milestone as it moves toward its proof-of-stake Merge transition next month. The final testnet for the Merge went live on the Goerli network. Ethereum testnet Goerli now operates under a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.
On July 27, Ethereum announced that for the last testnet proof-of-stake transition, Goerli would merge with Prater. The Goerli testnet merge happened in two phases. A successful Goerli testnet Merge underscores the reduced risk associated with the mainnet Merge event. This pivotal event promises to dramatically improve Ethereum's energy efficiency and scalability.
