Ethereum Name Service and GoDaddy: The eth.link Lawsuit Saga

The saga surrounding the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and the domain name eth.link has been a complex and closely watched legal battle. The suit alleged that GoDaddy wrongly handled the eth.link domain.

The core of the issue was that eth.link is used as a resolving service for .eth names. According to initial reports on 9 de sept. de 2025, Ethereum Name Service filed a lawsuit against GoDaddy for allegedly failing to abide by its agreement over the valuable eth.link domain. The ENS argued that control of eth.link was crucial, stating that losing control of eth.link puts key services “under threat,” suing GoDaddy, Dynadot, and Manifold Finance over the domain name.

Specifically, Ethereum Name Service has sued internet domain registrar and web hosting company GoDaddy for selling domain names ending with eth.link. This action raised concerns about the availability and security of .eth domains linked to traditional web infrastructure via eth.link.

However, the story took an unexpected turn. After an 18-month period of legal dispute, there was a reconciliation. True Names Ltd, the ENS and GoDaddy reconcile offer free linking of .eth domains with traditional ones. The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) developer has formally dismissed a lawsuit it filed regarding the domain name eth.link.
