Polygon Aims for Carbon Negative: Pledges $20 Million & Sets 2025 Target
Polygon is taking significant steps towards a greener future! Polygon’s Green Manifesto, announced today, is part of a broader vision for sustainable development that includes the plan to achieve carbon-negative status in 2025. This ambitious goal signals a strong commitment to environmental responsibility within the blockchain space.
To back its commitment, Polygon has pledged $20 million to offset carbon emissions and implement a series of community initiatives. They will fund projects using technology to combat or solve climate change, contributing to a more sustainable ecosystem.
Polygon Retires Carbon Credits, Making Major Strides
Polygon has made a major first step toward becoming carbon negative with the retirement of $400,000 in carbon credits representing 104,794 tonnes of greenhouse gasses, or the entirety of the network's historical carbon footprint. That's why Polygon is eliminating all of the network’s carbon debt going back to inception and then going carbon negative in 2025. The core team has joined with KlimaDAO to buy carbon offsets, demonstrating a proactive approach to mitigating environmental impact.
