Sam Bankman-Fried Extradited to US: Legal Documents Signed, Facing Fraud Charges
The disgraced cryptocurrency mogul Sam Bankman-Fried has been extradited to the US from The Bahamas as he faces criminal charges relating to the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX. After a chaotic morning, one of his lawyers said on Monday that Sam Bankman-Fried has agreed to be extradited to the United States.
Bankman-Fried will be extradited after the Foreign Minister of the Bahamas signed a warrant of surrender allowing his extradition to the United States, the Ministry of National Security confirmed. This followed initial resistance to extradition, but ultimately Sam Bankman-Fried has voluntarily agreed to be extradited to the United States, where he is being charged with eight counts by the United States Attorney's Office for securities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering.
Bankman-Fried is now due back in court Wednesday and, with extradition papers signed, should be clear for transfer to New York, where federal prosecutors have prepared their case. The legal documents are signed, signaling the next stage in the legal proceedings.
